To improve training on combat missions in 2019, the Third Operations Zone Headquarters carried out a terrestrial-aerial joint operation drill today (Oct. 9) at the Army Aviation and Special Forces Command’s Longcheng Barracks. The drill followed the Ministry of National Defense’s requirements on simulation and field maneuver, and was carried out in a “live operations, fully equipped, and hands-on” manner, so as to train the armed forces’ joint operation capabilities and reach training targets.

The Third Operations Zone indicated that the field maneuver was carried out to simulate the enemies using its air force, special forces, and intelligence agents launching surprise attacks on Longtan Compound command center by aerial and airborne attacks, as well as infiltration. The ROC armed forces, meanwhile, countered the attacks by launching a terrestrial-aerial joint operation, where air force, army’s aviation and special forces, and armored forces collaborated to secure compound safety.

During the preparation period for the drill operation, the Command Headquarters assigned various units to assist drill teams to complete preparation tasks. Full General Wang, Hsin-Long also came to inspect and supervise over the command tasks before the mission to ensure a successful mission. The Third Operations Zone pointed out that the field maneuver included preemptive strikes and strikes by the enemies’ special forces, backup supports by the defender’s air force, aerial reconnaissance and attacks by the Army Aviation and Special Forces, terrestrial-aerial surprise attacks, overpowering by heavy arms, clearance by mobile forces, and recovery of compounds. A total of around 500 officers and soldiers took part in the drill, and 62 primary military vehicles and weaponry in 6 types, including aerial, terrestrial weaponry and air forces’ fighter jets, were used.

The Third Operations Zone stresses that war preparation and training is part of the force’s primary tasks. Field maneuver allows cadres become more thoughtful on military assignments, and allows various tactics and strategies to become more useful in real combats. Overall, this will enhance the combat capacities of all forces in the combat zone. In addition, this drill also appropriately connects the army, the navy, and the air forces’ joint operations mechanism under the existing training framework. Training and drills allow the three forces to collaborate and learn to be effective in annihilating the enemies, securing successes, and protect all civilians.
